The Master of Science in Computer Science (MCS) program is designed to appeal to a broad range of individuals. The program balances theory with practice, offers an extensive set of traditional and state-of-the-art courses, and provides the necessary flexibility to accommodate students with various backgrounds, including computer professionals who want to expand their understanding of computer science, as well as individuals whose undergraduate degrees are not in computer science but wish to broaden their knowledge in computing. VIU MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS (MIS)

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MIS) is designed to prepare students for management positions in the information systems field. The curriculum is focused on gaining a better understanding of the use of information systems to enhance business processes and the decision-making process associated with them.

The program will teach students the significance of an effective information system for any organization and the creation and execution of an information system for achieving an organization’s objective. Students will be able to use technology as a competitive advantage and understand how technology helps to achieve the key business goals of an organization.
Graduates can anticipate the following types of careers:

· Analyst in information system development projects.
· IT consultant for projects that include a substantial dependence on information systems.
· Research and development of information technologies and related products and services.
· Designer/analyst in start-up IT companies.
· Instructor at a college or university teaching information systems-related courses.

Degree Requirements: Program is generally completed within two years. 36 credits required to graduate. It consists of seven (7) Core Courses and five (5) Elective Courses. Electives cover the essential areas of the information technology sector and provide an opportunity for students to develop and fine-tune their specific IT skills as per their own interests. VIU BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE (BSc)

VIU’s location in the Northern Virginia area, “Silicon Valley II,” means that graduates of our Computer Science program have ample opportunities to move immediately into employment or go on to advanced study. Our undergraduate Computer Science program is designed to give students a state of the art education in both the theory and practice of computer science. Upper-level courses involve students in team projects that emphasize industrial processes and practices.

Degree Requirements: A Bachelor of Science degree in the Computer Science field can be obtained after successful completion of 84 credit hours of major courses and 36 credit hours of General Education Courses, for a total of 122 credit hours. This undergraduate program is generally completed in four year. VIU COMPUTER DIPLOMA PROGRAM
IT SPECIALIST DIPLOMA

VIU’s IT Specialist Diploma program teaches students the essential skills required to use and troubleshoot computers, networks and computer applications. Diploma program students can develop an emphasis in:
· Computer Applications to develop the skills required so they can effectively use the essential applications found in nearly all job environments.
· Web Technologies to develop foundation level skills in website development and maintenance.

Graduates will be able to implement, support, and troubleshoot computer networks and information technology systems. They should qualify for a wide variety of computer-related, entry- level positions. Duties may include systems maintenance, support and training, and business applications design and implementation.

Diploma Requirements: A total of 24 credits are required to meet the graduation requirements. Student should earn a grade point average of at least 2.00 in all courses attempted.
