The MSDS Digital Filing Cabinet (DFC) is a document imaging
application designed specifically for storage and retrieval of
MSDS documents. Document Imaging programs store pages as images,
providing a fast and error-free method of getting the MSDS
document into the computer for display and printing. This method
of storing and retrieving MSDS's means that you have one source
copy that needs to be maintained, but that copy is instantly
accessible via the network to anyone, at any time. It also means
that instead of wading through stacks of binders to find the
right document, you can find it in seconds by searching.
Replacing outdated pages becomes as easy as finding the document
and selecting Replace Page. Or, how about automatically
generating vendor request letters for outdated MSDS's? Now there
is a time saver! The DFC will even make automatic backups of the
previous version of the MSDS for you when you replace it with a
newer version.
Traditionally, document imaging programs have been expensive,
inflexible, and very difficult to use. The DFC addresses all of
these problems with ease.
The DFC is very easy to use. The Product List provides instant
access to all products in the database, or the user can filter
the data down to a specific type of product: by name, department,
physical or health properties, and many other characteristics.
The DFC stores a wide range of information about each product, in
addition to the document images.
The index tab cards provide an intuitive interface for the novice
or power user. Simply double-click a Product and up comes all the
detail information, easily accessed from the same place. The DFC
provides specific tabs for information on Product Identity,
Physical Properties, Health Properties, Departments (locations),
Components (ingredients), and Documents (MSDS/other docs). There
is even a user-defined classification scheme for grouping
products.
Unlike most document imaging products, the DFC is flexible. It
allows you to "acquire" your MSDS's from a variety of
places: any TWAIN scanner, a fax modem, disk image files, disk
text files, direct keyboard entry, or launching other
applications. And, you can store an unlimited number of
additional documents with each product. In this way, the DFC
flexes to meet your needs, not the other way around...
The DFC provides the easiest method for getting documents into
your computer ever. The Document Acquisition Wizard leads you
through the entire acquire process, start to finish, with
context-sensitive help only a click away.
MSDS DFC comes with a wide variety of built-in reports for everything from listing products by department, to generating requests for new MSDS's that have expired. You can even use Crystal Reports (sold separately) to create your own custom reports!
The heart of the DFC is the document viewer. For images, the document viewer allows you to scroll, flip pages, scale, rotate, enhance, print & export any document image.
MSDS DFC will also connect automatically to the Chemical Inventory System, so that you can acquire, view and print MSDS's directly from CIS. You can also use the CIS inventory list to populate the Components tab for any product.
DFC provides multi-level password support for controlling access to the database. The MSDS DFC also has a companion product, called the SimpleView Step-By-Step (SBS) Viewer, which provides simple, distributed, read-only access across a network.

Now an employee, regardless of their knowledge of computers, can easily access digital MSDS files with a simple "click and view" interface. The SimpleView Side-by Side Viewer is a stand alone utility designed for easy, low-cost distribution of digital MSDS in read-only form across a network.
