Chemical Inventory System (CIS^TM)

The Chemical Inventory System (CIS) is a high performance database system designed specifically for tracking chemicals and laboratory supplies. CIS can be used in a single user mode or in a network environment. The system stores a variety of essential information about each chemical and supply item.

Information stored for each chemical record includes the name, ID#, Expiration Date, MSDS ID, Formula, Vendor, Catalog Number, two container size definitions, storage locations, on-hand quantities, hazard information, NFPA handling codes, special handling equipment, spill control protocol, costs, and synonyms.

The user can maintain an unlimited number of sub-locations for each item with individual on-hand quantities for each location. Vendor information is linked to each record making re-ordering out-of-stock items a snap. CIS can generate Code39 bar-codes for labeling containers and contains a wide variety of search and sorting routines. CIS allows the user to specify an unlimited number of synonyms (or alternate names) for any chemical. Chemical names are sorted by chemical conventions. The user can apply restrictions to the database to temporarily reduce the number of viewed records.CIS provides an optional Transaction Logging mechanism which allows facilities to monitor or removal of an item. Item, date, location, user, and reason can be easily logged. The system can produce reports and warnings when an item is below a user-specified level.

The user can maintain multiple databases, and import/export data from various system tables. An extensive array of reports is included for listing chemicals and supplies, including reorder reports, hazard information reports and sub-location reports. For custom reports, Crystal Reports can access CIS databases.

The program is designed to be very easy to use, with extensive on-line help and a complete tutorial for new users. The program can be linked to a separate document imaging application for storage and retrieval of MSDS data,  the MSDS Digital File Cabinet, (sold seperately).

This powerful software system includes all of the features in CIS and a lot more! Some of the additional features are as follows:

CIS™ Pro can store a tremendous amount of information about each chemical, but you have total flexibility as to how much of the information you use:

CIS™ Pro provides user define fields for reference ID's (see id2 and id3 above) , and checkboxes for classifications (see UserDef1-3 above).

The physical and hazard tabs store a wealth of useful properties for each chemical.

CIS™ Pro implements a container-based tracking model, so you can have multiple lots and containers of any chemical, supply, or formulation. CIS™ Pro will automatically generate unique ID#'s for you, or you can assign your own. These ID#'s can also be used in conjunction with the RIBM3 for remote inventory control purposes using a portable data terminal and bar code scanner (RIBM3 sold separately).

The Qty/Locations tab is where you keep track of all containers for a specific chemical. You can have an unlimited number of containers, sizes, and vendors defined for each chemical.

CIS™ Pro now allows you to define Formulations, which have an Ingredient List. Once the ingredients have been specified, CIS™ Pro can produce scaled batch records (these can also be used for material requirement reports).

CIS™ Pro can even adapt to your needs with user-defined properties. If you need a new field for some specific information, you can define a new property. Property types can be: text, number, date, or list of items.

CIS™ Pro has an improved searching and sorting interface. Everything you need is right there in front of you at all times.

CIS™ Pro provides an optional Transaction Logging mechanism which allows facilities to monitor or removal of an item. Item, date, location, user, and reason can be easily logged. The system can produce reports and warnings when an item is below a user-specified level. Using transactions, CIS™ Pro can provide cost-accounting features such as removal and addition costs per account, and value of inventory reports.

The user can maintain multiple databases, and import data from various data systems (including automatic import of CIS v2 data). An extensive array of reports is included for listing chemicals and supplies, including reorder reports, hazard information reports and location reports. For custom reports, Crystal Reports can access CIS™ Pro databases.

CIS™ Pro also has a separate reporting and querying tool: the CIS™ Pro Query Engine ™. The Query Engine allows the user to perform advanced ad-hoc reporting functions with ease.
