The Making of Poetry shows how Poetry comes to be written. By exploring the lives and experience of a number of English Poets (namely, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Keats, Gerard Manley Hopkins and Wilfred Owen) together with some of the poems which these poets wrote, this CD-ROM shows how poetry grows out of this experience. How, too, by looking closely where possible at manuscript versions, we gain a real insight into the creative process, watching, for example, how the poet alters a first draft, sometimes again and again, until a perfect form is achieved. Good examples of this gestative process are William Wordsworth in The Prelude and Wilfred Owen in Anthem for Doomed Youth.
Examples of how life-experience such as an incident in the poet’s life, perhaps insignificant to others, gives rise to a great poem, are provided by Ode to a Nightingale, John Keats, and The Wreck of The Deutschland, Gerard Manley Hopkins.
